In January 2022, fourteen months after the launch of a local clean energy program, electricity bill savings for participating residents surpassed $2 million. Since November 2021, the Towns Clarkstown and Orangetown and Villages of Haverstraw, Nyack, South Nyack, and Upper Nyack offered, via Rockland Community Power, renewable electricity at fixed, competitive prices.
Rockland Community Power is a community choice aggregation program that enables participants to pay less for clean energy than they historically paid for fossil fuel-based electricity. By pooling local demand, the participating Towns and Villages leveraged the collective buying power of their residents and businesses to negotiate more favorable terms for energy supply, protect consumers, and support renewable energy generation in NY State.
By participating in the program, residents can save money, choose 100% renewable electricity, help the NY State reach its aggressive climate goals, and facilitate our transition to a more sustainable future.
